Birth

Johannes Reinhart was born on September 16, 1759 in Berne. He was the son of George Freidrich Reinhart and Catharina Froelich.

Military Service

Johannes served in the Revolutionary War. In his application for a pension in 1820, Johannes states that his family consists of "...a wife who is infirm, a daughter 34 who has been an invalid since her infancy and unable to perform any labors. A son fourteen and a granddaughter age 5 who has lost her mother."[1] Note: His wife was Margaret, age 56; the invalid daughter was named Catherine, born 1785/86; the 14 year old son was Adam; the 5 year old granddaughter was Lydia, whose mother is thought to have died in childbirth. Marriage and Children

Johannes was married twice. First, to Sara Schaeffer on November 7, 1781, in the Lutheran Church in Schoharie, NY. She died within two years. They had no children. His second marriage was to Margaret Dietz on Oct 23, 1783. They were married in St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Schoharie. Johannes died January 12, 1844 presumably on his Switzkill Valley farm in Berne the age of 84.
