Fletcher D. Tallman was born in 1867 in Rensselaerville. He lived his entire life in the area.

Sat. Apr 1 1882 – The day has been cloudy. Drawed manuer all day and done chores. Read in the evening.
Sun. Apr 2 – The day has been Cloudy and Stormy – went up to EUGENE COOK’s and had my hair cut. Read in the evening.
Mon. Apr 3 – Cloudy, cut wood and done chores. Read in the evening.
Tue. Apr 4 – Clear and warm. Cut wood and done chores. Read in the evening.
Wed. Apr 5 – Clear and warm. Stayed in the house all day. Talked in the evening.
Thu. Apr 6 – Cloudy and cold. Stayed in the house all day and made cigarettes. Talked in the evening.
Fri. Apr 7 – Warm and cloudy. Stayed in the house and shot bow and arrow untill about four o’clock then went to the barn and made another Bow arrow. Read in Evening.
Sat. Apr 8 – Clear and warm. Stayed in the house most of the day – done chores and fixed bee boxes. Talked in the evening.
Sun. Apr 9 – Clear and warmer. I went down to old Charley and Done chores. Read in the evening.
Mon. Apr 10 – Clear and colder. I drawed manuer and skinned and picked two sheep and cut wood and done chores. Read in the evening.
Tue. Apr 11 – Cold and cloudy – drawed manuer, cut wood and done chores. Talked in evening.
Wed. Apr 12 – Clear and cold. Drawed manuer and done chores. Talked in evening.
Thu. Apr 13 – Cold and windy – cut wood all day and done chores. Talked in evening.
Fri. Apr 14 – Cold. I went down to Medusa in forenoon and cut buskes and plowed in the after-noon. Read in the evening.
Sat. Apr 15 – Cold and windy. I took off eleven chicks and done chores in the fore-noon and cultivated in the afternoon. Read in the evening.
Sun. Apr 16 – Clear and cool – done chores – Went to church in forenoon then went up to EUGENE COOK’s and went with them down to Methodist church in the afternoon.
Mon. Apr 17 – Clean and windy – cultivated in the forenoon and done chores and drawed manuer in the afternoon – Picked a sheep in the evening.
Tue. Apr 18 – Clear and windy, cultivated all day. Talked in the evening.
Wed. Apr 19 – Cloudy with South East wind – went down to Medusa in the forenoon and cultivated till about four o’clock then done chores. Talked in the evening.
Thu. Apr 20 – Cool and windy – draged wood out of the woods in the forenoon and done chores and plowed in the afternoon.
Fri. Apr 21 – Cold and windy. Cultivated all day up in the old meadow and south of the old barn.
Sat. Apr 22 – Cloudy and windy. Cultivate in 2 bu. of Wheat South of the old barn in the forenoon and done chores in the afternoon.
Sun. Apr 23 – Clear and cool. I went down to Medusa to church in the forenoon and went up to Uncle SELAH’s in the afternoon and done chores at night.
Mon. Apr 24 – Clear and cool, cultivated in oats South of the old barn from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. then cultivated up in the Swamp flat till night.
Tue. Apr 25 – Clear and cool, cultivated in oats up on the Swamp lot in the afternoon on the same piece. Suckles lambs in the evening.
Wed. Apr 26 – Clear and cool – crossed the Swamp flat in the forenoon with the cultivator and crossed part of the swamp sidehill with the drag. Suckled lambs in the evening.
Thu. Apr 27 – Cloudy with southeast wind – done chores in the forenoon and made a bar post and set it and plowed in the afternoon. Suckled lambs in the evening.
Fri. Apr 28 – Cloudy – I picked a sheep in the forenoon and cleaned up rye and done chores in the afternoon. Suckled lambs in the evening.
Sat. Apr 29 – Clear and warm – draged, picked and skinned a sheep, and done chores in the forenoon and done chores and grated horse radish in the afternoon. Suckled lambs in the evening.
Sun. Apr 30 – Clear and cool, went down to CHARLEY CANE’s in the forenoon and done chores for noon and went down to church in the afternoon and rode up from the meeting with E. COOK.
Mon. May 1 – Clear and cool – done chores and dragged in the forenoon and drawed three loads of clover chaff and dragged back of the house.
Tue. May 2 – Cold and windy. I done chores and cleaned up rye in the forenoon and done chores and cleaned up wheat in the afternoon.
Wed. May 3 – Clear and cool – done chores and made a shaving horse in the forenoon and took up trees for UNCLE AUSTIN and myself and done chores in the afternoon – unloaded the grist in eve.
Thu. May 4 – Cool and cloudy – done chores and empted flour in the forenoon, and done chores and went up to COOK’s with UNCLE WILLIAMS and got some pear graffs XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX.
Fri. May 5 – Clear and cool. I done chores and set some appl graffs back of the house in the forenoon and in the afternoon – done chores and unloaded a load of lumpXXX
Sat. May 6 – Cool and cloudy. I done some chores and help dag some sheep in the forenoon and daged sheep and plowed the gardens in the afternoon.
Sun. May 7 – Clear and Warm. I went down to church in the forenoon and done chores in the afternoon.
Mon. May 8 – Clear and Warm. I drawed manuer on the garden and back of the house of the banking and drawed stone in the forenoon and went up to NORTON’s in the afternoon and Medusa in the evening.
Tue. May 9 – Clear and warm – done chores and fixed a barppost south of the house and set out for seed, beets, turnipsm carrots and onions in the forenoon and done chores and made a beet bed and set out some onions in my garden.
Wed. May 10 – Clear and warm, done chores and planted potatoes North of the house in the forenoon and planted beet seed and cucumber seed and radish and sunflower seed in the afternoon and done chores and went to the XXXXX.
Thu. May 11 – Rainy, daged sheep in the forenoon and cleared out the chamber in the afternoon.
Fri. May 12 – Rainy – done chores and cut wood in the forenoon – cleaned out the wagon house and hog pen and cellar in the afternoon. Read in the evening.
Sat. May 13 – Cloudy. – fixed line fence between us and LEE in the forenoon and done chores and split raXls up in the North woods in the afternoon.
Sun. May 14 – Cloudy and Rainy – went down to old CHARLEY’s with BURT in the forenoon and done chores in the afternoon. Read in the evening.
Mon. May 15 – Clear and cool – went down after MARY and LIB come along, and made barposts in the fore noon and done chores and cut wood down by the woods (along the road) in the afternoon.
Tue. May 16 – Clear and warm – fixed fence and set barposts in the upper end of the long field and by the South barn in the forenoon and cut wood in the afternoon down the road.
Wed. May 17 – Clear and cool - I drawed the straw away from the stack upon the hill in the forenoon and draw rails up around the stack lot and drawed wood in the afternoon.
Thu. May 18 – Clear and cool. I droped potatoes in the forenoon and done chores and coverd them in the afternoon below the barn.
Fri. May 19 – Cloudy. I went down after MARY and fixed fence South of the house in the forenoon and set barposts up back of the chestnut tree lot in the afternoon.
Sat. May 20 – Cloudy. I finished planting potatoes below the b arn in the forenoon and worked in the North woods in the afternoon.
Sun. May 21 – Clear and warm. I went up and had BURT cut my hair and went to church in forenoon and went down to the Sawmill in the afternoon.
Mon. May 22 – Cloudy and warm. I done chores and picked two sheep in the forenoon and dragged down in the chestnut tree lot in the afternoon.
Tue. May 23 – Clear and cool. I done chores and mended XXXXX in the forenoon and done chores and set barposts and fixed fence up around the old sheep pasture in the afternoon.
Wed. May 24 – Clear. I done chores and shelled corn for to plant in the forenoon and done chores and trimed apple trees South of the house in the afternoon and went up to EUGENE’s and ZEB’s in eve.
Thu. May 25 – Rainy. I shelled corn to drill for to eat in the forenoon and went to Medusa in the afternoon.
Fri. May 26 – Clear and warm. I churned and fixed the fence up around the old sheep pasture in the forenoon and cut up a appletre limb out South of the house and dragged in the afternoon.
Sat. May 27 – Clear and hot – I finish dragging down corn ground and marked out some in the forenoon and planted corn in the afternoon with the planter down in the chestnut tree lot.
Sun. May 28 – Clear in the forenoon and rainy in the afternoon. I went down to church in the forenoon and went up to MR. WALDREN’s and took dinner and went to Methodist church and up to XXXXXX in afternoon.
Mon. May 29 – Clear and windy. I fixed fence up next to the oats in the forenoon and went down to the sawmill and up to COOK’s and Z DELIMATER’s in the afternoon.
Tue. May 30 – Clear and warm – I planted corn and dropped hog manuer in the forenoon and finished dropping manuer and planted in the afternoon.
Wed. May 31 – Clear and warn. I planted Seven roes of corn in the forenoon and fourteen in the afternoon. Broke down with a headache after tea.
Thu. Jun 1 – Clear and wet. I stayed in the house in the forenoon and fixed the south barn dore in the afternoon.
Fri. Jun 2 – Clear and cool. I fixed fence South of the Swamp flat in the forenoon and worked in my garden and planted corn in the afternoon and UNCLE DAVID and UNCLE WILLIAMS were here.
Sat. Jun 3 – Cloudy. I went over to ZEB’s after my cows and went down to see old CHARLEY and help put him in the wagon for Albany in the forenoon and sorted potatoes and dragged South of the house in afternoon.
Sun. Jun 4 – Cloudy in the forenoon and clear in the afternoon. I went to church in the forenoon and went up to MR. GRIFFIN’s and to ADISON KNONS’s after my pistol in the afternoon.
Mon. Jun 5 – Cloud in the forenoon and clear in the afternoon. I fixed fence up on the hill and went up and got UNCLE SEHLAH’s pistol to shoot crows in forenoon and cut woo put XXXme up on the crXXfield and planted potatoes.
Tue. Jun 6 – Clear and cool. I covered potatoes in the forenoon South of the house and took out worms nest’s out of the apple trees and dinished covering potatoes in the afternoon.
Wed. Jun 7 – Clear and hot – I drawed manuer below the wagon house and planted water melons in the forenoon and planted corn and cut up basswood tree and dragged in the afternoon.
Thu. Jun 8 – Clear in the forenoon and cloudy and rainy in the afternoon. I stayed in the house in the forenoon and dropped hog manuer and planted in the afternoon and went dow to the sawmill dug post.
Fri. Jun 9 – Clear and cool. I help wash in the forenoon and planted corn and went out looking for the lost sheep and done chores in the afternoon.
Sat. Jun 10 – Haisy. I planted pop corn and potatoes and field corn in the forenoon and finished planting corn and alterd lambs in the afternoon and done chores.
Sun. Jun 11 – Clear and hot. I went down to the Christian church in the forenoon and came home and went up to EUGENE’s and down to ZEB’s and Methodist Church in the afternoon and up to J.P. FROST in eve.
Mon. Jun 12 – Clear and hot. I sorted potatoes in the forenoon and fixed garden and cultivated in corn below the wagon house and went down to Medusa in afternoon.
Tue. Jun 13 – Clear and hot. I dropped corn South of the house in the forenoon and worked in my garden and dropped corn in the afternoon and planted PA’s carrots and beets below wagon house.
Wed. Jun 14 – Clear and hot. I finished covering the drill corn in the forenoon and drawed stone off the buckwheat ground and went down after the fish in the afternoon and eve.
Thu. Jun 15 – Rainy in afternoon. Clear in forenoon. I cleaned cellar in the forenoon and mixed plaster and shes for the corn and set out some tomato plants after tea in the afternoon.
Fri. Jun 16 – Clear and hot. I plowed all day up in the old sheep pasture and went down to ISRAEL’s with a cow in the evening.
Sat. Jun 17 – Clear in forenoon and cloudy in afternoon. I help clean School house up forenoon and cut brush in afternoon XXXX six then plowed till night.
Sun. Jun 18 – Rainy, I went up to UNCLE SEHLAH’s in the forenoon and went down to the creek and went swimming with BERT in the afternoon.
Mon. Jun 19 – I plasterd corn in the forenoon and cleaned off the Barn floor and platerd corned in the afternoon till tea time then plowed till it rained then got the cows and done chores.
Tue. Jun 20 – Clear and windy. I finished plastering corn in the forenoon and finished plowing in the old sheep pasture in the afternoon.
Wed. Jun 21 – Clear and windy. I worked on the road all day.
Thu. Jun 22 – Clear and cool. I worked on the road all day.
Fri. Jun 23 – Clear and hot. I finished working on the road in the forenoon and plasterd some corn South of the house in the afternoon.
Sat. Jun 24 – Clear and hot in the forenoon and rainy in the afternoon. I plasterd corn in the forenoon South of the house in forenoon and fixed the fence up around the spring lot in afternoon.
Sun. Jun 25 – Clear and hot. I went up to UNCLE CHARLEY’s in the morning and come home at night.
Mon. Jun 26 – Clear and cool. I plasterd corn and potatoes South of the house in the forenoon and hoed corn in the chestnut tree lot in the afternoon.
Tue. Jun 27 – Clear and cool. I hoed corn in the chestnut tree lot all day.
Wed. Jun 28 – Clear and hot. I hoed corn all day.
Thu. Jun 29 – Clear and hot. I planted beans in the forenoon and hoed corn till till tea time then planted beans till night.
Fri. Jun 30 – Cloudy. I planted beans in the forenoon and hoed corn till tea when it rained.
Sat. Jul 1 – Cloudy. I went to Oak Hill in the forenoon and cut wood in the aft.
Sun. Jul 2 – Clear and cool, I went down to church in the forenoon and went up to EUGENE COOK’s and BERT cut my hair and then went up to GRIFFIN’s.
Mon. Jul 3 – Clear and cool, I dragged in Buckwheat in the lot South of the house in the forenoon and leveled Buckwheat ground in the old sheep pasture in the aft.
Tue. Jul 4 – Cloudy and rainy, I finished leveling buckwheat ground in the forenoon and tinkered at everything in the afternoon.
Wed. Jul 5 – Rainy. I help load up a load of Oats in the morning and went up to NORTON’s to get a whipeltree dixed and dident get back till half past three then tinkered at everything.
Thu. Jul 6 – Clear and hot. I took bolts out of the old hay rigging in the forenoon and worked in my garden and hoed potaoes below the barn in the aft.
Fri. Jul 7 – Clear and hot. I hoed potatoes below the barn in the forenoon and dragged in buckwheat in the aft.
Sat. Jul 8 – Clear and hot – finished dragging in buckwheat.
Sun. Jul 9 – Clear and hot. I went down to Christian Church in the forenoon went and took dinner with HAMY and went to Methodist Church in the afternoon.
Mon. Jul 10 – Clear and hot. I sheared sheep all day and went down to the consert in the eve.
Tue. Jul 11 – Clear and hot. I sheared sheep all day (finished)
Wed. Jul 12 – Clear and hot. I mowed around the fence of the long field in the forenoon and hoes potatoes in the afternoon below the barn.
Thu. Jul 13 – Clear and hot. I put up oats in the forenoon and painted the hay rigging and went down to Medusa after oil in the afternoon.
Fri. Jul 14 – Clear. I finished mowing the long field in the forenoon and drawd in three loads of hay in the afternoon.
Sat. Jul 15 – Clear and hot. I mowed around the Old meadow and stired out hay in the long field in the forenoon and raked and drawed in three loads of hay in the afternoon.
Sun. Jul 16 – Clear. I went down to Medusa to church in the forenoon and went over to the School house to Sunday school.
Mon. Jul 17 – Clear. I Mowed around the old meadow and went up to NORTON’s in the forenoon and drawed in three loads of hay in the aft.
Tue. Jul 18 – Clear. I help hive a swarm of bees and fix the machine in the forenoon and mowed around the lot below the road and drawd in 2 loads in the aft.
Wed. Jul 19 – Clear. I plowed corn in the forenoon and plowed corn and raked and drawed two loads in the afternoon below the road.
Thu. Jul 20 – Clear and how. I mowed in the forenoon and went up to NORTON’s and drawed in hay from below the road in the aft.
Fri. Jul 21 – Clear. I mowed below the road in the forenoon and went down to funeral in afternoon.
Sat. Jul 22 – Clear and hot. I drawe in hay all day but in the morning then shook up hay below the road.
Sun. Jul 23 – Clear. I went down to church in the forenoon – went up to BIRTIE’s and took dinner – went to Methodist church and back to BIRTIE’s and took tea and went too the concert in the evening – went up and stayed with FRED all night.
Mon. Jul 24 – Clear – mowed over under the woods in the forenoon and mowed and raked in the afternoon.
Tue. Jul 25 – Clear. I plowed corn all day in the chestnut tree lot.
Wed. Jul 26 – Clear. I help draw in four loads of hay and plowed over in the lot next to the woods and plowed corn in the chestnut tree lot.
Thu. Jul 27 – Clear. I plowed corn all day in the chestnut tree lot.
Fri. Jul 28 – Clear in forenoon cloudy in aft. I mowed on the flat next to the woods in forenoon and tinkered around and plowed corn and raked hay in the aft.
Sat. Jul 29 – Clear. – painted in the forenoon and drawed 1 load of rye and 2 loads of hay in the aft.
Sun. Jul 30 – Clear. I went down to church and rode up with MR. GRIFFIN and went over to the school house to Sunday School in afternoon.
Mon. Jul 31 – hot – I plowed corn in forenoon and drawed in three loads of hay and three loads of rye in aft.
Tue. Aug 1 – hot – I raked rye in the old orchard in forenoon and drawed it in in aft.
Wed. Aug 2 – hot. I mowed in the young orchard till about 3 o’clock then churned and raked up hay after tea and got in two loads.
Thu. Aug 3 – Hot – I Craidled wheat till 3 o’clock then raked it up and raked and got in 2 loads of hay after tea.
Fri. Aug 4 – Clear and hot. I tinkered round in forenoon and drawed in hay in the shed and commenced a Stack up above the Orchard in afternoon.
Sat. Aug 5 – I drawed hay for the Stack and mowed in the chestnut tree lot in the forenoon and drawed hay for the stack in the afternoon.
Sun. Aug 6 – Went over to WILL MACKEY’s and up to EUGENE COOK’s and BERT came down to my house and cut my hair in forenoon and went down to church in aft.
Mon. Aug 7 - hot – I finished drawing for the Stack in the forenoon and Mowed in the Old Meadow in afternoon.
Tue. Aug 8 – Clear and hot. I mowed with a scythe in the little pasture and raked it up all day.
Wed. Aug 9 – Clear and hot. I mowed with a scythe in the little pasture and raked it up all day.
Thu. Aug 10 – Poor – I went up to SELAH’s in morning – come back mowed away a load of hay and commenced the stack in the little pasture in the forenoon – stacked in aft.
Fri. Aug 11 – Hot. I finished stacking in forenoon – mowed away a load of hay in the barn – goound machine knives and Scythe in afternoon.
Sat. Aug 12 – Clear and hot. I mowed in the old meadow in forenoon and drawed in four loads in afternoon.
Sun. Aug 13 – Clear and hot. I went down to UNCLE DAVID’s come back and done chores.
Mon. Aug 14 – Clear and Xlry. I finished plowing the forenoon and raked and drawed in three loads in afternoon.
Tue. Aug 15 – Hot. I went over to WILLIE MACKEY’s and back and up to EUGENE’s in forenoon and drawed in three loads of hay up on the hill in afternoon. B went to Medusa in eve.
Wed. Aug 16 – Hot. I went over to the blacksmiths at Smiths Corners in forenoon and raked oats up in the swamp lot in aft.
Thu. Aug 17 – Clear in forenoon – cloudy and rainy in aft. I went over to Smiths Corners in forenoon and drawed in to loads of Spring wheat and cleared off the South barn floor in aft.
Fri. Aug 18 – Clear and cool. I looked up the cow and calf and help craidle oats in the young orchard in forenoon and raked and drawed in the same piece in aft and I went up to EUGENE’s in eve.
Sat. Aug 19 – Clear and cool. I help draw in oats all day. 10 loads in.
Sun. Aug 20 – Clear. I went down to church in forenoon – went up to JOSEPH ALVERSON’s and took dinner then went to Methodist church and up to EUGENE’s in afternoon.
Mon. Aug 21 – Clear. I help draw in oats out of the swamp lt and thrashed and load in the aft.
Tue. Aug 22 – Clear and cool. I help draw and thrash oats all day. UNCLE DAVID’s folks come up about noon and IRA and me and JOHN went down to MEDUSA in eve. I went to ice cream festival.
