Baptist Church at Preston Hollow

For several decades after settlement there were no churches in the Hilltowns. Marriages and baptisms were frequently performed by a circuit preacher and recorded in Schoharie or elsewhere.

Since the earliest days churches have served as focal points for the Hilltown communities. They provide a place for people to meet, share their faith, and bring communities together. Churches often provide genealogists with accurate records of ancestors marriages, baptisms and deaths. Unfortunately, over time, many records of churches that have been dissolved no longer exist.
