Nicholas Brunk was born in the Mohawk Valley, of Holland ancestry and was a descendant from one of five brothers who migrated from Holland and settled along the Mohawk River as pioneers. Nicholas was born in 1780.
He was a farmer. Nicholas settled in the town of Knox, where he cleared him a farm and made him a home on 130 acres of land.

Nicholas died on December 27, 1842, age 62 and his wife, Elizabeth Miller died on May 2, 1865 age 80. Both were buried on the Old Brunk farm.
